Kant characterises this [Cosmological] argument as a perfect “nest” of dialectical assumptions.—Kritik, p. 427 (Eng. trans. p. 374). Yet it might be shown that the objections he takes to it depend almost exclusively on his theory of knowledge—e.g., that the mind is confined to phenomena; that the law of cause and effect has no application—except in the world of phenomena (though Kant himself applies it in positing an action of things per se on the sensitive subject, and introduces a “causality “ of the noumenal self, etc.). The same remark applies to the “antinomies” or self-contradictions in which the mind is said to involve itself in every attempt at a theoretic application of the cosmological “Idea.” The “antinomies” are rather to be regarded as rival alternatives of thought, which, indeed, are contradictory of each other, but which do not stand on the same footing as regards admissibility. Rather they are of such a nature that the mind is found to reject one, while it feels itself shut up to accept the other. E.g., The world has either a beginning in time or it has not. The alternative here is an eternal retrogression of phenomenal causes and effects, or the admission of an extra-phenomenal First Cause—God. But these do not stand on the same footing. The mind rejects the former as unthinkable and self-contradictory (see Lecture IV.); the latter it not only does not reject, but feels a rational satisfaction in admitting. Again, there is the antinomy between natural causation and freedom of will. But this is only an antinomy if we hold that the law of causation applicable to physical phenomena is the only kind of causation we know—that there may not be rational, intelligent causation over and above the physical and determinate. Something here also depends on the definition of freedom.

To despise the Law of God is to despise the Son of God. (Or: Truth you won’t hear in most American churches.)

If we have a low regard for God's Law, we a have a low regard for God's Son.

We don't hear that much from American church pulpits these days, do we?

Yet few truths are more clearly conveyed in God's Word.

Again and again, Jesus is described as the embodiment and fulfillment of what? The Law.

Again and again, Jesus warns us not to think that He has come to abolish the Law (Matthew 5:17-18).

Again and again, Jesus describes those who revere and teach every detail of the Law as great in the Kingdom of God and those who relax even the least of His commandments and teach others to do the same as being the least in the Kingdom of God (Matthew 5:19).

Again and again, Jesus describes His Gospel-fueled Great Commission as being centered on teaching everyone everywhere to obey His every command in every area of life (Matthew 28:18-20).

Why?

Because His Law is life.

Because all of His creation is defined, sustained, and consecrated to the service of His Nature (Colossians 1:15-20).

That's why it's completely and perfectly loving to drive people toward His Word and His Law as the only means by which they might find true peace, love, prosperity, security, and joy anywhere in His creation.

This is why Jesus loves the Law.

This is why King David loved - and gushed on at length in song - over the matchless beauty displayed in God's Law.
This is also why we are told again and again that those who claim to love Jesus while rejecting or dismissing His Law are, in fact, liars (1 John 2:3-6).

To truly love Jesus is to desire to know Him more and more accurately as He has revealed Himself in His Word.
To truly love Jesus is to submit to what we learn of His Nature through His Word, growing in love for what He loves, and growing in hatred for what He hates.

To truly love Jesus is to sincerely love His Law.

To have been truly saved by Jesus is to have been transformed by His grace alone from a self-centered creature hell-bent on rebellion against His rule into a spiritually resurrected, Christ-centered being who clings to him lovingly as the source and sustainer of every good thing in creation.

While we are certainly not saved by obedience to the Law (we can only be condemned by it apart from Christ's supernatural saving grace in our lives), we are just as certainly saved unto obedience to the Law. This obedience is not the means by which we preserve or earn our salvation. It is not pursued out of dry, legalistic obligation to the Judge above us. It is instead embraced as a life long mission born of love for the One who saved us even while we still hated and rebelled against Him.

His people understand this...or they're supposed to, anyway.

But these days in a (not so coincidentally) dying American culture, few pulpits preach the truth of God's Law, preferring instead any of a million cheap, easy, and lawless counterfeits in its place.

This is one of the most obvious and flagrant signs of God's judgment upon America.

To disregard God's Law is to despise it, and to despise God's Law is to despise God's Son.

So is it any wonder that we see God's judgment rolling over a proud land loaded with "conservative Christian" churches that despise His Law? Is it any wonder that we see lawlessness and depravity multiplying exponentially in a people dedicated to rejecting Him as Lord over the details (and even the vagaries) of their educational, political, and economic lives?

Of course not.

We're getting exactly the rapidly disintegrating zombie culture that most of our "Christian conservative church leaders" have been begging for over generations of practical abandonment and rejection of God's Law.

So yeah, it's bad.

And here we are.

So what are we supposed to do about it?

Just complain? Pout? Whine?

Wait for the rapture?

Uh...no.

Instead, we're supposed to embrace the mission and the great opportunity before us to explore, learn, and share the beautiful, deep, life-resurrecting power of Jesus' Nature as revealed in His Word and Law.

Back in 2015 in an article entitled Presuppositional Law: Where we begin with law determines where we end., we tried to helpfully address the subject of how law and culture function in God's creation:
"What is law?

What is the basis for law?

What ultimately determines whether a thing is lawful or lawless?

What we often automatically and unconsciously presuppose about the origin and nature of law determines what we will allow ourselves to see and consider from that point forward. Our presuppositions about the essence of law dictate which “truths” we will acknowledge as legitimate and which “realities” we will allow on our radar.

Where we really begin with our consideration of law is fundamental to where we will allow ourselves to go (and be taken) in pursuit of answers.

The same goes for family, marriage, liberty, freedom, and life itself. That’s just how things work in God’s creation. Always has been. Always will be. There are no exceptions and there is no workaround. Everything in His creation is bound and defined by His Nature as revealed in His Word, whether or not we believe it, acknowledge it, or like it.

Law, as with all other things in the created universe, can only begin to be rightly understood by going to the beginning:

In the beginning, God created . . . ~ Genesis 1:1a

For by him all things were created, in heaven and on earth, visible and invisible, whether thrones or dominions or rulers or authorities—all things were created through him and for him. And he is before all things, and in him all things hold together. ~ Colossians 1:16-17 (bold emphasis added)

So it is that we understand that law is not a creation or invention of man. Law is not something that man can tweak or modify as he sees fit apart from the Nature of God as revealed in His Word.

Law belongs to God. It is a reflection of Him in His creation. It is born from, bound to, defined by and dependent upon His Nature.

Only with this simple but profound and essential truth in hand and held tight are we are able to rightly understand and apply law in God’s creation.

But we aren’t really encouraged to think of law this way, are we?

Of course not.

Every unbelieving “expert” and “leader” in the land – be they of a Pagan Political Right or Pagan Political Left flavor – is all about promoting and reinforcing the notion that law is man’s and that any consideration of law here “in the real world” must begin with the assumption – the presupposition – that man is somehow, some way legitimately empowered and entitled to determine for himself what is lawful and what is lawless.

What could be more American than that?

And what could more quickly and easily provide clarity as to why our culture is spiraling into oblivion before our lawless, unbelieving little eyes?

What else could we have ever expected from a land proudly and defiantly built upon the “virtue” of religious pluralism? What else could have ever come to any land whose people claim the “right” (God-given, even) to openly worship false gods?

How could any people so proudly consecrated to the promotion of religious pluralism produce anything better than “legal” child sacrifice and “gay marriage” at the end of the day?

Why would we expect any more or any better from a “land of the free” where “freedom” includes the “right” to openly worship Satan?

This is where law leads when we presuppose it to be man’s plaything.

This is what law becomes when we imagine it to be anything other than wholly reliant upon the Nature of God as revealed in His Word.

This is the lesson of America…a lesson that the Church is well served to note and apply as we move forward through this temporary wreckage and toward the supernatural victories and restoration to come, all by His grace, all for His glory, and all to the eternal benefit of His people."
Jesus really is the personal and exclusive way, truth, and life of law, politics, education, economics, and everything else in His creation.

The sooner we submit to that inescapable, unbreakable, and incomparably beautiful truth in legal, political, economic and educational practice, the better.

Now if we could just get 10% of American Christians to agree...
